Shoes should be comfortable – even after many hours on your feet. Comfortable shoes not only contribute to a pleasant working day, they also keep the feet and the entire body healthy. That’s why it is important that you pay attention to comfort with your shoes.

FACTORS THAT IMPACT COMFORT

Sika Footwear has identified a number of factors that have an impact on experiencing comfort. Two aspects are particularly decisive for this – the situation of the user and the functions of the shoes

Do you work indoors or outdoors? Is it warm or cold? Is it wet or dry? Do you stand a lot or are you constantly moving? Do you use ladders? Do you have a wide or narrow foot? Do you have a hollow or kink countersunk foot?

In addition to environment, activity and person, various shoe functions influence how comfort is experienced:

Shock absorption and suspension

Shock absorption and suspension describe the extent to which the shoe is able to absorb shock and return energy to the foot. Shoes with good shock absorption reduce stress on joints, feet, legs and back.

Shock absorption is not to be confused with softness, which often conveys a feeling of comfort right at the first moment. This is noticeable, for example, with an insole made of particularly soft material. In the long run, however, softness does not necessarily provide good comfort.

Flexibility

Flexible shoes are characterised by the fact that the outsole and upper are made of supple, soft materials that adapt to the movements of the foot. Conversely, a shoe that is less flexible can provide comfort even through greater stability.

Breathability

Breathable shoes allow heat and moisture to be dissipated from the feet, so that the temperature inside the shoe is comfortable and the feet stay dry. Breathable materials are usually characterised by properties that allow optimal sweat absorption and good sweat transport. This allows moisture to be absorbed and dissipated from the foot.

Hold

Stability and support can reduce the risk of injury. The need depends on the individual foot, the respective environment and activity. Even the construction of a shoe itself can be designed for support. Support can also be achieved by stabilising materials in stressed areas.

Upper material:

The upper material can be made of different materials, which are combined with each other starting from the application. The most common materials are the following:

Full grain aniline leather: Particularly durable and breathable material that is mainly used for safety footwear that is subjected to heavy use.

PERMAIR LEDER: Durable and breathable material. Water resistant, easy to clean and resistant to some chemicals, oils, salts, etc.

Microfibre: Durable, breathable and quick-drying material. For some products, the material has a water-repellent effect.

Textile: Breathable material that allows you to create different designs through print, colours and details. Commonly combined with other materials, e.g. leather, nubuck, suede, mesh or microfibre to achieve extra durability
